Sports cards are trading cards that are related to sports. A picture of a player is on one side and the statistics and other data are on the other side. The first cards issued were baseball cards in the later part of the 19th century. Hockey cards were issued in early 20th century. Cards from these two centuries are called tobacco or cigarette cards as these cards were produced by tobacco companies and put in cigarette packets to increase the sale.
Sports cards are one of the oldest and most popular type of collectibles. The most highly prized card is the Honus Wagner card from the set 1909 T-206. The production of these cards was stopped abruptly and less than 100 cards were produced. A card from this set can be sold for six figures. Football, hockey and basketball cards are also collected.
