The Laserdisc was first invented in 1958 (not a typo!), but was only introduced publicly in 1972. It is an analog system with both its video and audio stored in its disc composition. Ever since its invention, movies, concerts, and sound recordings were popularly written onto Laserdisc formats.
Over the years, the system used in Laserdiscs evolved from analog audio systems to more digital types like Dolby Digital and DTS. The production of Laserdiscs continued until 2001. The manufacture of its players likewise ceased in the early months of 2009.
