Radio, phonograph, TV and phones are all items which are primarily aimed at entertainment and communication. The phone is the oldest and works using a simple microphone which converts audio to electrical currents that power a speaker.
The phone was the first electrically powered communications device developed. The first phone showed up in 1876. The technology which went into allowing the phone to work was eventually utilized to build the phonograph and then the first radio. The television came significantly later than these early developments but it still made large use of technology which was created for these three previous communication devices. It was the first communications device which made it possible for users to get audio video entertainment in their home.
